Developing the Number Line

In this workshop we will explore how to help teachers and students think about the versatility of the mathematical model of the number line.  We will study the development of the number line from the rekenrek in Kindergarten through second grade initially as representation, then ultimately as tools for thinking, proof and justification. Participants will have the opportunity to explore several classroom settings where we will examine the meaningful use of models within contexts and routines.
