Proportional Reasoning: From Fractions to Algebra: Grades 4 – 8

In this session we will explore the development of rational numbers (particularly fractions), through investigations and guided number strings. We will then build on this understanding to study the development of early algebra and algebraic reasoning. Throughout the institute, we will study how the idea of proportional reasoning connects these two landscapes mathematically.

Time: The workshops will be virtual, and will run 2 hours in the AM (9-11AM) and 2 hours in the afternoon (1-3PM).
